Charity Overview

All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) is a global nonprofit dedicated to providing community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief. With nearly 20 years of disaster work, they have impacted 1.4 million lives.

AHAH’s approach to disaster recovery is through on-the-ground collaboration with local, impacted communities to address both their immediate and long-term needs. AHAH’s efforts range from rebuilding schools to providing essential services to community engagement programs, all aimed at helping communities build back stronger than ever, for generations to come.

Project Summary

Funding from the ICAP Charity Day has been directly allocated to AHAH's Education for All fund. The Education for All fund supports its mission of providing safe, disaster-resilient learning environments for students in post-disaster areas. AHAH recognizes access to education as fundamental to human rights, driving economic growth, gender equality and strong democratic institutions. It helps communities thrive sustainably across generations, providing hope for each student and their families.

At All Hands and Hearts, we believe that education is the foundation for a brighter future. The Education for All fund is crucial because it not only rebuilds schools but also strengthens communities by providing safe, resilient learning environments where students can thrive despite the challenges posed by disasters.

AHAH focuses on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 'Quality Education,' one of 17 goals established by the United Nations to address the pressing social, political, economic and environmental challenges we face today. In 2013, 70 countries agreed on 2030 as a collective deadline to make the world a safer and more equitable place, creating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SDG 4 emphasizes the importance of quickly restoring educational access in disaster-affected communities to prevent long-term impacts on students, particularly young girls. Through their community-centered approach, AHAH rebuilds schools as part of their support for disaster-impacted communities, ensuring children can continue their education and realize their potential.

Education in post-disaster contexts is crucial for multiple reasons. It helps heal trauma, ensures safety and protection from child labor and trafficking and allows parents to focus on rebuilding homes and livelihoods. It also promotes gender and social equality, implements disaster preparedness and health initiatives, provides shelter during future disasters, and upholds a child's right to learn and play in a safe school.

The Education for All fund has played a pivotal role in rebuilding disaster-resilient communities. Since 2005, All Hands and Hearts has supported over 350 schools, enabling more than 121,000 students to return to new and improved classrooms.
