Henrik Lundqvist Foundation

Charity Overview

Henrik Lundqvist Foundation (HLF) was founded in 2014 by NY Rangers’ former goaltender and Hockey Hall of Famer, Henrik Lundqvist, and his wife Therese.  After years of service through Madison Square Garden’s Garden of Dreams Foundation, including serving as a spokesperson since 2009, Henrik decided to create his own foundation with partners spanning from New York City to Sweden and the Dominican Republic. In 2015 HLF also started its own program, The HLF Young Ambassadors program, because of its belief in the incredible power of young people to make a difference in the world.

Project Summary

Thanks to ICAPs support from its charity day in 2021 HLF was able to finance the project to hurricane proof the FUCPE school in La Romana, in the Dominican Republic. The FUCPE school is affiliated with our community partner, Together for Better. This project was completed just one week before a devasting hurricane made landfall in 2022 and thankfully the school was not damaged. The school helps approximately 310 children in poverty receive education yearly and the school building also plays an integral part of the entire community as a safe house (for over 900 people).

HLF’s aid and support let me confidently encounter personal challenges and enabled me to dedicate my time to helping others and doing a good in the community. Being involved with the Foundation in general has opened up many new opportunities for me that I wouldn't have gotten if not for my involvement. Overall, I could not be happier to be a part of such a fantastic organization that supports great causes and empowers young people.

Furthermore, the financial backing also supported the continued work with our HLF young ambassadors (HLFYA). In 2022 we welcomed our 7th class of young ambassadors. The program empowers young men and women who want to be changemakers in their communities and beyond. It is open to youth ages 13-18 who reside in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. The HLFYAs are required to fulfill below program requirements:

  1. Complete a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of community service (signed off on by a supervisor, teacher, coach, parent or guardian);
  2. Complete one (1) independent service project in support of HLF’s mission;
  3. Attend at least one (1) HLF-hosted event and/or service project;
  4. Make a short presentation to his/her class, team or other community group about HLF’s mission and his/her work as an HLFYA.

All HLFYAs also commit to conducting themselves with integrity and make a promise to embody HLF’s ideals of hard work, determination, service and kindness to others.

  • The 7th class of HLFYA (13 youth) did some incredible work:
  • Together they completed over 300 service hours
  • Raised over $13,000 for HLF’s community partners and other organizations whose mission align with HLF’s
  • Completed Halloween Custom-, Food-, Book- and Backpack drives etc
