Charity Overview
Youth Sport Trust believes in giving kids a sporting chance. With funding from ICAP Charity Day 2010, Youth Sport Trust has been able to support young people from a variety of sports through the ICAP Scholarship Fund.
Project Summary
ICAP Scholarships are awarded to exceptional young athletes, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, and include costs for world class coaching and essential training needs such as travel, sports equipment and competition costs.
Thanks to funding from an ICAP Scholarship, Amy Conroy is now a strong contender to compete for Team Great Britain in the Paralympics Wheelchair Basketball competition this summer.
As a young girl, Amy had aspired to become a dancer or gymnast until her dreams were shattered when she was diagnosed with cancer. After loosing the bottom part of a leg to the disease, Amy discovered Wheelchair Basketball and has been hooked ever since.
Amy burst onto the GB women's team when she was only 16 years old and made her debut at the Paralympic World Cup in 2010. She then went on to perform outstandingly at the World Championships in Birmingham, helping the team to their highest ever ranking finish (6th).
Amy is currently studying her A Levels at Notre Dame High School in Norwich and is an inspiration to us all. Let’s all cheer Amy on as she competes for her spot on the Team GB Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball team!
