Charity Overview
Community Children Foundation (CCF) is one of the largest charities in Thailand dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children, aged 1-24 years. The charity was set up in 1975 and operates under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
CCF’s approach is to broaden underprivileged children’s access to quality education as a means to help them break the poverty cycle. ICAP Bangkok has been a key partner in a project supporting 300 students from tribal communities in Nan Province.
Project Summary
With support from ICAP Charity Day 2015 in Bangkok, Community Children Foundation beneficiaries at two schools in Northern Thailand are now settling into their new school facilities; Si Na Man School which has a new dormitory and Ras-Rath Pattana School with its improved school building and brand-new library.
Si Na Man School, situated in the Santisuk District, Nan province is a lower Secondary School serving 167 students. Twenty-three of the students who attend the school live more than 25 km away. This is an extremely impoverished area with limited public transport, therefore many of the children attending the school have to lodge there or nearby during the week. With no budget for a student dormitory, school teachers were having to personally accommodate children – otherwise they wouldn’t have had a safe place to stay. Thanks to support from ICAP Bangkok, a new and permanent student dormitory was constructed earlier this year. The new house has five bedrooms, and is fully equipped with bunkbeds and bedding.
Using the donation from ICAP, Community Children Foundation also supported another school in the same area, Ras-Rath Pattana. Currently, the school serves 127 students from nursey age to Grade 9. Prior to CCF’s support the school lacked basic infrastructure and students attended class in a shabby 23-year-old wooden building which was not fit for purpose. The building was unsafe and had cracked and leaky ceilings, rusty and rotten floors, peeling paintwork and frayed partition walls. There was also no library, only a reading corner at the end of a noisy classroom. CCF and its local associates have transformed the site into a newly renovated school building with a dedicated library.
In July 2016 CCF’s lead project officers, along with the educational advisor appointed by Nan Province’s Educational Service Area visited Si Na Man School and Ras-Rath Pattana School to see the incredible results and impact of the project on students. At Si Na Man School, there are now 21 students boarding and there are 127 students and 15 teachers benefitting from ICAP’s invaluable support at Ras-Rath Pattana.
Funding from ICAP Bangkok has given 300 students from tribal communities in Nan Province access to a safe learning environment, particularly impacting the lives of students from underprivileged areas.
