Charity Overview
Royal Far West provide health services to children in rural and remote areas of New South Wales. Every year, thousands of children who have limited access to medical services and suffer with non-acute developmental, behavioural, learning and mental health disorders, benefit from an integrated clinical and educational model of care.
Project Summary
ICAP Charity Day support has enabled Royal Far West to assist in the running of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
As part of its Care Mobile programme, Royal Far West sends clinical and medical staff to locations across regional New South Wales where medical services do not exist. The Care Mobile is on the road for 40 weeks of the year, and parks in schools where children are encouraged to go on board for treatment.
ICAP’s donation established a successful programme which was run through the Care Mobile called “Come N See”. “Come N See” is an innovative speech and language programme which delivered a service to 23 schools and pre-schools. The Care Mobile clinical specialists travel to these schools to conduct face to face assessments with children who currently have undiagnosed speech and communication issues.
Of the 200 children identified and assessed, 153 were in need of individual speech therapy sessions, which were delivered remotely using video conferencing technology directly into their school. For nearly 80% of the children treated, their issues were resolved and Royal Far West continues to work with those that need additional care.
In November 2013 some children from Kempsey, New South Wales came to the ICAP Sydney office after they visited Royal Far West for medical checks.
