Funding from ICAP Charity Day will support liquid biopsy for 12 children, enabling 12 less-invasive blood tests to detect tumour cells and monitor treatment response. Funding will also support a programme for 3 children, which includes full genomic, drug-screening and laboratory tests to personalise therapy, and a tissue culture suite to equip MCCCC to culture cancer cells and test new treatments.

Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to curing childhood cancer. Cancer kills more children than any other disease, so the research is critical. With the brightest brains, cutting-edge facilities, and the greatest determination, they will get the job done. For 40 years, they have been conducting research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer. In the 1960s cancer was practically a death sentence in children, today, more than eight out of 10 children survive.
