Charity Overview
SportsAid is the only national charity of its kind, dedicated to giving young athletes the chance to succeed. The charity is the UK's main source of support for the country's next generation of Olympians and Paralympians. There is a misconception that when any athlete of any age pulls on a GB vest, they have made it. SportsAid aims to address this and create a wider awareness and understanding of the challenges the next generation of athletes face. Typically aged 12 to 18, these athletes receive no other funding for their transport, kit and nutrition. The astonishing fact is that many are already representing Great Britain and if they can continue doing so, have the potential to go on and inspire the nation, as was brilliantly demonstrated during London 2012.
SportsAid will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016, which also coincides with the next Summer Olympics hosted in Rio de Janeiro. The objective of the charity for this period is to develop new partnerships to widen the opportunities for people to help these young athletes and to shine a brighter spotlight on their amazing stories.
